Twenty Ten, Two Thousand and Ten, however you want to say it, is shaping up to be a good year for a new series paintings and pastels. The past couple of years I was able to amass many photographs and experienced wonderful sights and sounds across the globe from visits to India, Budapest Hungary and Paris France. While those were “working” travels, I was able to snap enough photos (see www.worldnation.com) to provide excellent subject matter for new works of art.
Below are a few composite sketches/photos that are the beginnings of these new works. I’ll post more as these works begin and do a few “works in progress” type of images/videos (Embrace the Blue) as before.

Venetian Stars
Venetian Stars
Medium: Oil 2005
This is the latest in the series titiled “My Blue World” and is also part of my “International Painting” series. This was unfortunately the only oil painting from 2007. While I did produce some pastels, most of my creative time spent i 2007 was in the form of photography and theatre. The “My Blue World” series title gets its name from a 70s song called “Turn to Stone” by Electric Light Orchestra. Blue being one of my favorite colors, not a state of mind. ; )

Jamaica Hut
Medium: Oil 2002

Jamaica Hut
Taken of the little bungalow next to ours, calling it a hut is a disservice as they were very cute, great bedding and furniture, but it was completely without air conditioning. Not that that was a problem since it was on the edge of a cliff overlooking the Caribbean ocean.

The Taj Mahal 2004 (Sold)

taj mahal
This was done from a group of photos from a co-worker that actaully lives in India, but was on vacation himself when these were taken. It started out much more surrealistic, women in shrowds intertwined in the trees by the pool, but was later modifed to just be more Van Goghish. Later was was able to travel to India, but not where the Taj Mahal is, but in Bangalore India where I took photos and video for future paintings. The women of India dress in the most bright and beautiful clothing it is an art all of itself.

Sphinx of Giza 2004-2005 (Sold)
This painting is of the Sphinx of Giza in Egypt (see enlarged ). It is a combination of several photographs provided by a friend who vacationed there in 2003, and from additional sketches I did from those photographs. The three moons above the pyramids and Sphinx were meant to represent the constellation ” Orion’s Belt.” The scary thing is, that I Googled the name of the constellation and started ready about it. I’m new to astronomy and had only recently been told by a friend the name of those three stars in the night sky that seemed to align perfectly. I’ve always felt an attraction to those starts, especially for some reason around the December and January time of the year. So what I found out was, that It has been suggested that the three Belt- stars influenced the placing of the Pyramids at Giza, and it is certainly true that there is a remarkable correspondence of position between the Pyramids and the stars . In the late1980′s, Robert Bauval proposed a theory that the ancient Egyptians represented the distinctive pattern of the three stars of Orion’s ‘belt’ by building a group of three pyramids at Giza that matched the pattern of the three ‘Belt stars’ in the Orion constellation. An observer north of Giza looking south, would see a similar arrangement on the ground as could be seen in the sky – two stars in line and one slightly offset corresponding to two pyramids in line and one slightly offset with similar relative distances between the three stars and between the three pyramids.

Paris Nights 2003 (Sold)
I began this series shortly after coming back from a trip to San Francisco California. Because I have not had the luxury of traveling extensively, I’ve relied on my friends and other co-workers who do. My day job, if you will, is for a very “global” company, and I’ve met many great people from the Asia-Pacific, European and South American regions. So with people I know who live in Singapore, to India, Brazil and France, I’m able to have access to photography from around the world. This entire series I plan on doing in oil paintings using style I’ve grown more accustom to over the years, which is a mix of impressionism and surrealism. Artist who inspire me in these styles are Monet, Van Gogh and Salvador Dali
